Bristol County Savings Bank Awards $25,000 Grant to New Bedford Economic Development Council

TAUNTON, MA, June 22, 2018 — Bristol County Savings Bank (BCSB) recently awarded a $25,000 grant to the New Bedford Economic Development Council (NBEDC) to support the city’s Arts, Culture and Tourism Fund and the coordination and implementation of New Bedford’s first ever Arts and Culture Plan due to be completed this summer.

“We place a particular emphasis on supporting economic development within the communities we serve so this donation to support New Bedford’s growing arts scene is a perfect fit with our mission,” said Patrick J. Murray, Jr., President & CEO of Bristol County Savings Bank. “The Bank continues to invest in our local communities to make them a better place to live and work and, with our recently opened office in the historic Candleworks building in downtown New Bedford, we anticipate this commitment will only grow stronger.”  Murray added that since 2007, the Foundation has donated more than $4 million to 501©(3) organizations in the Southcoast.

“A vibrant arts and culture sector is a critical element of the city’s overall economic well-being,” said Jon Mitchell, Mayor of the City of New Bedford. “Once again we thank Bristol County Savings Bank for understanding what’s important to the economic health of a community.  Our newly created Fund devoted to the arts is the first of its kind in Massachusetts and, in combination with an understanding of the vast potential of this sector, will be an asset to New Bedford’s economic development and to the quality of life of everyone living in and visiting our city.”

The NBEDC is a non-profit organization comprised of 250 leaders in business, education and government. In conjunction with the Mayor’s Office, the Council sets the agenda for the city’s key strategic economic development areas and the NBEDC is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the organization’s programs and initiatives. The NBEDC continues to actively seek new business investment by marketing New Bedford worldwide as a top location for business growth and expansion, while remaining committed to assisting local companies and entrepreneurs with their start-up, expansion and other business concerns.
