Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation Awards $272,923 in Grants to 36 Area Non-Profits

TAUNTON, MA, June 30, 2017 — Bristol County Savings Bank (BCSB), through its charitable foundation, awarded grants totaling $272,923 to 36 non-profit organizations in the Taunton-Attleboro, Southcoast and Rhode Island areas during a ceremony which took place today, Friday, June 30th, at White’s of Westport, 66 State Road in Westport, Massachusetts.

The organizations that received grants from the Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation (BCSCF) are as follows:

Taunton-Attleboro area, $71,800 – Attleboro Area School to Career, Attleboro YMCA, Coaching 4 Change, Community Visiting Nurse Agency, Inc., Hockomock YMCA, Massachusetts Audubon Society, Inc., Newman YMCA, Rehoboth Antiquarian Society and The Literacy Center;

Southcoast area, $133,350 – Children’s Advocacy Center of Bristol County, Citizens for Citizens, Inc., Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts, Greater Fall River Recreation Committee, Inc., Heidrea for Heroes, Inc., Junior Achievement of Southern Massachusetts, Inc., Kennedy Donovan Center, Inc., Lloyd Center for the Environment, Nativity Preparatory School of New Bedford, New Bedford Art Museum, New Bedford Festival Theatre, New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center, Inc., New Bedford Women’s Center, Inc., Old Dartmouth Historical Society, Our Sisters’ School, Southcoast Mentoring Initiative, The Schwartz Center, and YWCA of Southeastern Massachusetts; and

Rhode Island area $67,773 – Books Are Wings, Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket, Children’s Friend & Service, Camp Ruggles, Inc., Good Neighbors, Inc., Housing Network of Rhode Island, Jeanne Jugan Residence of the Little Sisters of the Poor, Rhode Island Nurses Institute Middle College Charter School and the Sandra-Feinstein Gamm Theatre.

Patrick J. Murray, Jr., President of the BCSCF and President & CEO of BCSB, awarded the grants to the organizations. Also participating were Jasiel Correia, Mayor, City of Fall River; Thomas Hoye, Mayor, City of Taunton; Christina Connolly, Assistant Chief of Staff for Jon Mitchell, Mayor, City of New Bedford; and representatives from the BCSCF advisory boards and the Bank’s area branches.

“Our Foundation is proud to grant a total of more than a quarter of a million dollars to these 36 deserving non-profit organizations in the local community,” said Patrick J. Murray, President & CEO of BCSB and President of BCSCF.   “As a mutual community bank, we believe that the communities we serve are our stockholders.  So, our mission is to support our local neighborhoods to meet the growing needs of the population.  One way to accomplish that goal is to assist the good work of these non-profits recognized here today.”

Bristol County Savings Bank is an active supporter in the communities in which it serves. The Foundation was established in 1996 as part of the Bank’s 150th Anniversary celebration.  Its purpose is to fund needs that contribute to the economic and the social well-being of the people and institutions located in the greater Taunton/Attleboro Region, the greater New Bedford/Dartmouth Region, the Fall River Region and the Pawtucket, Rhode Island Region, with particular emphasis in the areas of education and literacy, economic development and housing for the low- to moderate-income population.  Since the Foundation began, $17.9 million has been committed to hundreds of different non-profit organizations.  In 2016, the Foundation awarded $1.7 million to various 501(c)(3) organizations.
