Microchip Technology

Bristol County Savings Bank debit cards use EMV chip card technology. What are chip cards?
A chip card is like the card you have today but includes an embedded microchip. The chip contains information that is encrypted making it extremely difficult for the card to be copied or counterfeited. Your chip card will also have a magnetic stripe on the back, so that you can continue using your card while merchants are transitioning to chip enabled terminals.

How do I use my MasterCard chip card at a chip-enabled terminal?

Does Bristol County Savings Bank have Zero Liability program from MasterCard?
Yes. The Zero Liability Program from MasterCard protects you from unauthorized transactions1. It is important to monitor your account frequently and notify us as soon as possible if you have detected fraudulent activity on your ATM or Debit card account. We encourage you to use Bristol County Savings Bank Online Banking or Mobile Banking to monitor your account activity frequently.
How else does Bristol County Savings Bank protect your Debit Card Transactions?
Bristol County Savings Bank monitors your account every day for suspicious transactions with SecureLOCK, a debit card transaction monitoring program for all our debit card customers. If we detect a debit card transaction that appears suspicious, we will notify you via text, phone or email to determine if the transaction was originated by you. Any customers who have an active debit card will automatically be enrolled in this free service. We will ask you to validate the merchant, amount, date/time and location of the purchase. We will NEVER ask you to send account information via email or text and you should never reply to text messages or emails that ask you to send account information. The success of this fraud prevention depends on the cardholder verification process. It is critical that you have accurate mailing addresses, email addresses, and telephone numbers associated with your debit card. We encourage all our customers to update their contact information.

Tips if you are traveling
If you will be using your debit card while traveling, especially internationally, or are planning any out of the ordinary purchases, please call our customer are center at 508-828-5420. We recommend you always carry a back-up payment source in the case your card is compromised while traveling due to fraudulent activity.

1MasterCard Zero Liability program – When you use your MasterCard, you’re protected against fraud. Have peace of mind knowing that the financial institution that issued your MasterCard won’t hold you responsible for “unauthorized transactions.” As a MasterCard cardholder, Zero Liability applies to your purchases made in the store, over the phone, online or via a mobile device and ATM transactions. As a cardholder, you will not be held responsible for unauthorized transactions if:

  1. You have used reasonable care in protecting your card from loss or theft; and
  2. You have promptly reported to your financial institution when you knew that your MasterCard was lost or stolen.

If you believe there has been unauthorized use on your account and you meet the conditions above, rest easy knowing you’re protected by Zero Liability. Zero Liability does not apply to the following (or certain) MasterCard payment cards: Commercial cards, unregistered prepaid cards or gift cards.
