Whydah Pirate Museum

Wednesday, August 10, 2022

Shiver me timbers! Calling all ye landlubbers on deck to join PRIME TIME™ on Wednesday, August 10th to experience an exciting day in the life of a pirate. The day begins as we travel to Yarmouth for a guided tour of the Whydah Pirate Museum; home to the largest collection of pirate artifacts recovered from a single shipwreck.

On April 26, 1717, the Whydah Gally, fully loaded with pirate captain Samuel "Black Sam" Bellamy’s ill-gotten gains was caught in a powerful New England Nor’easter and went down in violent seas off Wellfleet taking all but 2 of her crew to their watery graves. The ship and all of her sunken treasures eluded all attempts at discovery for over 260 years until being discovered in 1984. The Whydah Gally was the first pirate shipwreck to be positively identified and remains the only pirate ship whose identity is unquestionably authenticated.

Following our tour, we’ll head over to the quaint, seaside village of Hyannis for a delicious buffet luncheon at Alberto’s Ristorante. After lunch, there will be ample time to stroll the specialty shops on Main Street, shop for Nantucket Reds, pick up some unique sea glass jewelry or even visit the JFK Hyannis Museum. This interesting and eclectic street offers something for everyone.

A day in the life of a pirate is not complete without grog! On our way home, the adventure continues as we make a stop at the Mary Celeste Whiskey & Wine Library in Marion for a “yo ho ho and a bottle of rum” rum tasting!
