Sleepy Hollow for the Holidays

“In the bosom of one of those spacious coves … there lies a small market-town by the name of Tarrytown.” So begins Washington Irving’s classic tale “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” Join PRIME TIME™ as we experience A Sleepy Hollow Holiday and learn how one of Irving’s most lasting contributions to American culture can be found in the way Americans perceive and celebrate Christmas.
Itinerary:
Day 1: On route to Sleepy Hollow, we’ll make a stop for lunch to experience A Winter Wonder Whale at Sign of the Whale in Stamford, CT. Inspired by the holiday decorations in New York City, the restaurant will be “decked out for the holidays” with ornate décor featuring Christmas trees, oversized ornaments, snowflakes, garland and wisteria. Following our 3-course luncheon, we’ll continue on to Lyndhurst Mansion in Tarrytown, NY to witness this stunning property transformed into an extravagant wonderland of holiday splendor. Described as one of the Ten Best Historic Holiday Tours by USA Today, Lyndhurst brings holiday décor to a whole new level. Next, we’ll check in to our "home away from home" for the next two days at Tarrytown House Estate. A casual dinner at a local restaurant is included this evening. (L,D)
Day 2: After breakfast (incl.), we’re off to New York City for the most anticipated holiday tradition – The Christmas Spectacular starring the Radio City Rockettes®. Step into a world of enchantment at the iconic Radio City Music Hall and be captivated by a breathtaking display of artistry, music and dance. The Rockettes® will bring you on a journey through beloved holiday classics with awe-inspiring sets and costumes that will transport you to a winter wonderland. Following the performance, enjoy free time in New York City. See the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, shop in the holiday markets or check out the famous window displays decked out for the holidays…the choice is yours! We will stop for dinner in Yonkers, NY en route back to the hotel. (B,D)
Day 3: After breakfast (incl.), we’ll discover the charm of Sunnyside, the beloved home of Washington Irving. Knowledgeable guides will share fascinating insights into his life and literary works. Among his biggest contribution to Christmas in America was his promotion of St. Nicholas as a beloved character, laying the groundwork for the figure we’d eventually embrace as Santa Claus. Following the tour of his home, we’ll visit Irving’s final resting place at the Old Dutch Church and Burying Ground. Not only is this the oldest existing church in New York, it was also his inspiration for “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”. (D)
