Speakeasy Tour and…Murder Mystery

Wednsday, April 17th

Image of Speakeasy Murder TripDistribution, sale, and storage of “intoxicating” beverages was criminalized in the early 1920’s with the passing of the 18th Amendment and the Volstead Act; ushering in the period of American history known as Prohibition. It was the time of the Depression and many people were more interested in drinking than eating!

Join Prime Time™ for a unique day in Newport, RI on Wednesday, April 17th. The day begins with a ‘Prohibition’ themed tour of Newport. From the former speakeasy haven of Thames Street to rum-running locales on Ocean Drive, our step-on guide (dressed as a speakeasy proprietress) will reveal Newport’s little-known history during the days of Prohibition.

Next, we’ll enjoy a guided tour of the National Museum of American Illustration. Located in Vernon Court; a Gilded Age mansion on ‘glitzy’ Bellevue Avenue, this museum is known as the “most American of American art” and is exclusively devoted to American illustration masters such as Norman Rockwell, Maxfield Parrish and JC Leyendecker

Following the museum tour, we’ll enjoy a ‘High Tea Lunch’ at the Hotel Viking. Our guide, the speakeasy proprietress will whisper the password for entry! Entrée choices are: Statler Chicken Breast w/ roasted potatoes and grilled asparagus, Seared Cod w/ spring vegetables, risotto and lemon beurre blanc or Squash Ravioli w/ butter and sage sauce. Enjoy, but stay alert as performers present a fun, speakeasy–themed Murder Mystery! Help figure out ‘Who Dunnit’ as you meet some of the era’s famous bootleggers.
