Votes for Women Tour

Tuesday, August 18th

Image of Votes for WomenOn August 18, 1920, America rejoiced as the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote was ratified. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the women’s suffrage movement, where brave women used their voices to gain traction in advocating for women’s rights.

Join PRIME TIME™  on Tuesday, August 18th for a unique day in Newport, RI as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote. The day begins with a ‘Votes for Women’ themed tour of Newport’s Ocean Drive as our step-on guide (dressed as a suffragette) highlights sights connected to remarkable women who lived or summered in Newport.

Next, we’ll enjoy a guided tour of Rough Point Mansion, the oceanfront estate of Doris Duke – tobacco heiress, philanthropist and art collector. Throughout the course of her life, she became the benefactor of many artists, medical researchers and in 1968, founded the Newport Restoration Foundation with the purpose of saving more than 80 colonial buildings in Newport’s Point and Historic Hill sections.

Following the mansion tour, we’ll enjoy a plated lunch at Atlantic Resort. Meal choices are either sautéed breast of chicken or baked stuffed scrod (vegetarian option available upon request). After dessert, our suffragette guide will lead a rousing women’s right to vote rally to simulate a suffrage campaign meeting. Following our rally, we’ll end the day with some independent time in Newport’s waterfront area.
