Oyster Farm Tour

A behind-the-scenes look at how oysters are raised, harvested and prepared

July 17, 2024

At only 40 miles long and 30 miles wide, Rhode Island may be the smallest state in the Union, but its oysters represent some of the finest in the business. Join PRIME TIME™ on Wednesday, July 17 for a one-of-a-kind Oyster Farm Tour in Matunuck, RI.

This unique tour begins with an introductory discussion about aquaculture and fisheries on both a global and local scale. Following the discussion, we’ll take the short boat ride to a shellfish farm in Potter Pond. Here, we’ll have a behind-the-scenes look at a variety of species of shellfish in many different stages of growth. We’ll also have an opportunity to sample fresh oysters, straight from the sea, paired with local wines.

After our “hands-on” tour, we’ll enjoy a seaside lunch at Matunuck Oyster Bar (MOB). Named as one of 23 “must try” seafood restaurants in the U.S., MOB has won many awards since opening in 2009. Given their fresh ingredients, they are well-known as one of RI’s best farm to table and pond to plate restaurants.
Meal choices are:     ____ Lobster Roll  ____ Oyster Po Boy ____ Sunset Farm Burger  ____ Grilled Chicken Sandwich

The day ends with independent time in Narragansett, RI. Breathe in the ocean air and listen to the sound of the crashing waves as you stroll along the sea wall or pick up some ocean-themed gifts and souvenirs in one of the boutiques on Boone Street. This quaint coastal town offers something for everyone!
