September 30, 2025

Join PRIME TIME™ on Tuesday, September 30th, for a Day at the Museums in Amherst, MA, featuring visits to the Emily Dickinson Museum and the Yiddish Book Center.

The Emily Dickinson Museum offers a glimpse into the life of Emily Dickinson, a ground-breaking poet known for her unconventional style. Though socially reserved, her lyrical poetry was bold and emotional, challenging 19th century expectations for women. Beginning at age 23, Dickinson gradually withdrew from society, becoming a recluse by age 30. In her lifetime, she penned nearly 1,800 poems and many vibrant letters. Today, we will enjoy a guided tour of her birthplace and homestead, where she lived with her family during the 19th and 20th centuries.

At the Yiddish Book Center, discover the remarkable story of its founding in 1980 by Aaron Lansky, a 24-year-old graduate student. Lansky recognized the imminent loss of countless irreplaceable Yiddish books, the primary tangible legacy of a thousand years of Jewish life in Eastern Europe, as American-born Jews, unable to read the language of their ancestors, often discarded them. What began as an effort to recover and preserve these vital texts has evolved into an institution dedicated to promoting and preserving Yiddish language, literature and culture. Fellows will lead a tour through the many exhibits.

Lunch will at the Inn on Boltwood, a historic American landmark (originally as the Lord Jeffery Inn) that has embodied hospitality and elegance since 1926. Entrée choices are: Maple Dijon Pork Tenderloin, New England Baked Cod or Saffron Risotto. All meals will be accompanied by homemade focaccia bread, herb-roasted fingerling potatoes and roasted summer squash.

We will end the day with a wine tasting at Hardwick Winery.
