Bristol County Savings Bank’s Joan Medeiros Named Outstanding Citizen of the Year by Bristol County Chamber of Commerce

TAUNTON, MA, November 21, 2019 — Bristol County Savings Bank (BCSB) announces that Joan M. Medeiros, whose position is Vice President/Commercial Lending at the Bank, has been recognized with the Roger Velcourt Memorial Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award by the Bristol County Chamber of Commerce based in Fall River, Massachusetts.  The award is presented annually to an individual who dedicates a significant amount of their professional and personal time to support the Fall River area community and help it grow.  The 26-year local banking veteran is based at the Bank’s office at 215 Pleasant Street in Fall River.

Born, raised and currently residing in Fall River, Medeiros graduated from Bishop Connolly High School and the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.  Her parents, the late John (Jack) Medeiros and Maria Medeiros, fostered a philosophy of faith, family and community and Medeiros has carried those values throughout her life.

In 2018, Charlie Baker, Governor of Massachusetts, appointed Medeiros Chairperson of the Board of Trustees at Bristol Community College, the first woman to serve in that position.  Active with the Bristol County Chamber of Commerce over the years, she served on the Board of Directors and as Volunteer Chairperson for Fall River Celebrates America.  Medeiros received the John Brayton Community Recognition Award from the Chamber in 2009.

Medeiros is also Chairperson of the Boys & Girls Club of Fall River and serves as Treasurer for the United Way of Greater Fall River.  She is a Board Member at Bishop Connolly High School and the Argosy Collegiate Charter Foundation and is a member of the Finance Committee at St. Stanislaus School, all based in Fall River.  Formerly Vice Chairperson of Leadership Southcoast, Medeiros is a member of the Rotary Club of Fall River and has also volunteered for numerous other organizations in the community.

Medeiros was a recipient of the Portuguese Heritage Award, presented by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Portuguese American Caucus in 2014 and has been an active member of the Prince Henry Society of Fall River since 2007.

As Vice President/Commercial Lending at the Bank, Medeiros is responsible for developing new business opportunities existing commercial loan relationships and managing the SBA and Express Business Loans programs.  In 2013, she was named the SBA’s 2013 Financial Services Champion for the State of Massachusetts.  Prior to joining the Bank, Medeiros served as Vice President – Commercial Services for BankFive in Fall River and Assistant Vice President at Rockland Trust Company in Brockton, Massachusetts.
