Over 175 years of serving our communities.

Since our founding in 1846 we have maintained an unwavering commitment to serving the needs of our customers and our local communities. We offer full-service community banking serving businesses and individuals throughout Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

On Saturday, June 20, 1846, twenty nine people crowded into a newly-incorporated, one-room mutual savings bank in the center of Taunton, Massachusetts. These were the first depositors of the Bristol County Savings Bank. They were drawn to the one room office in Taunton by the relatively new concept of a mutual savings bank where citizens could enjoy a safe place in their community to pool their money. They were ready to place their trust in a new bank. These first depositors were also drawn by their trust in the Bank’s founders, a group of well-known citizens and community leaders known for their strong ties and civic contributions to Taunton.

So from the very first day of its existence, the promise of a strong commitment to both its customers and its community was forged at Bristol County Savings Bank.
Almost six generations later, having withstood the challenges of wartime, economic depressions, natural and man-made disasters, and especially the relentless acceleration of change, the Bank has flourished to the point that it is now one of the strongest financial institutions in New England. As a state-chartered mutual bank and the wholly-owned subsidiary of Beacon Bancorp, Bristol County Savings Bank is a full-service banking institution with approximately $3.1* billion in assets.

Main Office Taunton Location on Broadway

The Bank moved its corporate offices to the Broadway location in 1860 where it served as headquarters until 1996. This location remained the only branch office until expansion began almost 100 years later in 1976. Today, the building remains our Main Branch office and also houses our partner Bristol Wealth Group. Our corporate offices are now located next door in the Jones Block Building on Broadway in Taunton, Massachusetts.

Downtown New Bedford Office Opened

Our most recent branch expansion was completed in 2018 when we opened our 16th branch office. This office is located in the historic Candleworks Building in downtown New Bedford and includes a full-service loan office. This location has been described as a place where “old meets new” as it is a state-of-the-art branch featuring the latest universal banking technology, including two drive-thru Interactive Teller Machines, in a setting that is reminiscent of New Bedford’s whaling heyday.
