‘In Our Own Backyard’: Showcasing Taunton

Wednesday, July 7

Taunton, MAPRIME TIME™ Travel is very excited to introduce the ‘In Our Own Backyard’ series where we will showcase hidden gems found close to home. These ‘drive-yourself’ events will feature local places which we otherwise might overlook that help make our area such a wonderful place to live!

The first event in this series will take place on Wednesday, July 7th as we spend the day in Taunton, MA. Founded in 1637 by members of the Plymouth Colony, Taunton is one of the oldest towns in the United States. Also known as the Silver City, Taunton was a historic center of the silver industry beginning in the 19th century when companies such as Reed & Barton, F.B. Rogers, Poole Silver and others produced fine-quality silver goods in the city.

Our day will begin with a one-mile, guided walking tour of Historic Downtown Taunton. This tour will highlight important architectural, cultural and commercial sites beginning at our own BCSB Main Office with stops along the Taunton Green and ending at the Old Colony History Museum located on Church Green.

After our arrival at the Museum, we’ll enjoy a ‘Taste of Taunton’ style luncheon. This lunch will feature local favorites from local establishments including pretzel bites from Liberty and Union Alehouse, a variety of appetizers from The Pearl Restaurant, kabobs over rice from the Riverhouse, pastries from Fratelli’s Bakery and craft beer from Berkley Beer Company.

Following the luncheon, we’ll be treated to a 45 minute lecture by Dr. William Hanna, local historian, former teacher and author of A History of Taunton, Massachusetts.

This event is not only for Tauntonians but anyone interested in the history and socio-economic development of the region. Trip cost is $75.00 for Prime Time members and $85.00 for your guests and includes:
